What is Conservative Dentistry?

The conservative dentistry It is the set of treatments that provide the necessary measures to preserve natural teeth and avoid the extraction of damaged teeth.

For maintain healthy and functional teeth in the mouth for as long as possible, at Ibarreta Dental we are committed to minimally invasive treatments to prolong the useful life of affected teeth.

Normally, conservative dentistry deals with the hard tissue restoration of teeth that have been destroyed by:

  • Cavities.
  • trauma.
  • Developmental changes.

What diseases does conservative dentistry treat?

The most common problem treated in conservative dentistry is dental caries.

Tooth decay is a disease caused by bacteria which is characterized by the destruction of the hard tissues that form the tooth. The acids secreted by these bacteria cause demineralization and subsequent destruction of dental tissues.

The remains of food that we do not remove with a good brushing, the intake of sugars and acids found in food and drinks and a genetic predisposition contribute to increasing the risk of suffering from cavities in our teeth.

The destruction of these tissues begins in the enamel, the outermost layer that forms the tooth, and the hardest tissue in our body, harder than even bone.

Composite fillings or fillings

First step

The cavity that has caused the caries is cleaned and disinfected. Once well disinfected, a treatment is performed on the dental tissue called acid etching, and then an adhesive is applied that will be the one that binds the composite to the tooth.

Composite

The composite is placed by layer. Thus filling the cavity. Each layer is hardened by applying a halogen light.

Placement

As we place the composite on the tooth, we mold it to return the tooth to its original shape and thus be able to recover functionality and dental aesthetics.

Polished

Once we have finished filling the cavity completely, we finish polishing the composite to give it a shine similar to that of dental enamel.
