What are gingivitis and periodontitis?

They are two very common diseases, most of the population has suffered from them at some time, both gingivitis and periodontitis affect the gums, they are caused by the accumulation of bacteria and tartar.

● Gingivitis It occurs when the infection affects only the gum, it becomes inflamed, red and begins to bleed. So that this does not happen we must prevent it, if it is not treated in due time, periodontitis will most likely appear.

● Periodontitis It occurs when gingivitis has not been treated in time, it also has an impact under the gums causing periodontal pockets, reaching the bone and the root. This oral disease can be detrimental to our health, for this reason it is always necessary to go periodically (preferably every 6 months) to the reviews recommended by our Dental Clinic.

What are the causes of these diseases?

The main cause is the accumulation of bacteria between the gum and the teeth.

There are other types of factors that cause the development of these diseases such as:

● Tobacco contains very toxic substances such as tar, nicotine and many more that produce a greater accumulation of bacterial plaque, greater wear on the tooth bone, and causes the smoker to have more accumulated and more aggressive bacteria.

● Hormonal changes in women, such as pregnancy, can negatively affect the gums during this state.

● People with diabetes often have gingivitis or periodontitis as they are more sensitive to oral infections.
